I just returned from Paris and have developed an interest in the Eiffel Tower. I wanted to make a laser-cut model of the famous tower and discovered the cut file on GradCAD. In order to make it large and yet fit in the bed of the Muse Laser Engraver and Cutter, I had to split up the cut file into parts:
- Base 1
- Base 2
- First and Second Floors
- Supports between the First and Second Floors
- Summit
Laser cutter settings for the 3mm plywood are:
- Speed: 20
- Power: 75
- Current: 100
- Passes: 1
Base 2 was cut. I had only enough plywood for 3 of the 5 groups, so I had to make a run to Woodcrafters.
I didn’t scale the cut file properly, resulting in the tabs not matching the thickness of the plywood. I will have to rescale and recut.
The re-scaled cut file worked.
I need to adjust the cutting settings as the base cut didn’t go all the way through the plywood. I sanded the back side of the cut to free the pieces.
